The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is an American mixed marital arts organization based in Las Vegas, Nevada. The tournament consists of martial artists from different martial arts background facing each other to decide the winner, A fighter can emerge victorious either by the referee stoping the match by an Knock Out, submission or the doctors checking the fighter during the battle and calling of the fight by declaring his opponent as the winner. UFC matches vary depending on whether the match is for a Championship title, or is a fight card’s “main event” fight. In all fights, each round is five minutes duration. Championship fights last for a maximum of 5 rounds. Else in all fights, it is a 3 rounds bout.
The UFC stages the fight in an eight-sided enclosure officially named “The Octagon”.
All competitors fight in approved shorts, without shoes. Tops are only for female competitors. Required safety equipment includes padded gloves, mouthguard, and protective cups held in place with a jockstrap for males. The open-fingered gloves have a minimum of 1″ of padding around the knuckles. To ensure compliance, fighters are checked by a State Athletic Committee official before being allowed to enter the cage/ring. The scoring system is a ten-point must system is in effect for all UFC fights; three judges score each round and the winner of each receives ten points while the loser receives nine points or fewer.
History of the UFC
The UFC was originally started by Art Davie and Rorion Gracie. Royce Gracie, the brother of UFC founder Rorion Gracie, was hand-picked to represent his family. And he made the family proud by winning 3 of the first 4 events.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is the undisputed world champion when it comes to mixed martial arts promotion, producing more than 40 live events annually worldwide. MMA embodies disciplines from different martial arts and Olympic combat sports, like boxing, kick-boxing, karate, judo, jiu-jitsu, wrestling and muay thai. UFC became popular under Zuffa LLC with new rules inside the octagon cage, sanctioned by Nevada State Athletic Commission in 2001, bounced back to pay-per-view television and continue to grow in the digital age of internet and social media.
